Producing materials for the future of transport

Easpring Finland New Materials Oy is building a battery materials plant in Kotka, Southeast Finland. The plant will produce cathode active material (CAM), which is needed to manufacture battery cells for electric vehicles and energy storage applications.

The project in brief

Easpring Finland New Materials Oy is owned by Beijing Easpring Material Technology, one of the world’s leading battery materials producers, and Finnish Minerals Group, a company wholly owned by the state of Finland, with a task to develop the mining and battery industry in Finland.

Our plant will create economic growth in the Kymenlaakso region and accelerate the green transition and electrification of traffic in Europe. Construction work on our site will begin during the spring of 2025, and our goal is to launch commercial production in 2027.

Cathode active material

Cathode active material (CAM) is a powdered material needed in battery cell plants to manufacture the most valuable part of the battery cell, the cathode.

The material produced in Kotka will meet the sustainability and traceability requirements of European customers. Our products will be sold for battery cell plants in Europe and around the world.
