Construction of the Kotka cathode active material (CAM) plant is progressing in the Keltakallio industrial area. The plant is scheduled to produce its first product samples in summer 2026 and start commercial production in 2027.

The construction of Easpring Finland’s CAM plant has progressed at a rapid pace. Construction began in the spring of 2025, and the frame of the main building is starting to take shape this autumn.

The frame of the plant’s main building is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025. The frame is supported by over 30-meter-tall pillars, which currently stand out prominently in the landscape. The main building is 36,000 square meters in size. Additionally, the plant area will have warehouses and other ancillary buildings.

The busiest phase of construction is expected to occur at the beginning of 2026, when plant equipment installations are scheduled to take place. At that time, we estimate a total of around 800–1,000 people will work at the site.

Contracts related to the plant’s construction work have been and will be put out to a competitive tender in Finland.

Between April and September 2025, a total of 128 subcontractor companies have worked at the site. The subcontractors are located in several regions of Finland. Kymenlaakso is strongly represented with 28 companies.

After equipment installations in the beginning of the year, our plant is scheduled to produce its first product samples during the summer of 2026. Proper commercial production is expected to commence in 2027.

With first-stage capacity, our plant will produce 60,000 tons of cathode active material per year, meeting the material needs of 750,000 electric vehicles. With this capacity, the plant directly employs approximately 270 people and generates approximately EUR 180 million in new annual tax revenue for Finland. The amount of tax revenue is based on an estimate conducted by consulting company Ramboll on behalf of our co-owner, Finnish Minerals Group.
