Easpring Finland has selected a main contractor for its plant

Easpring Finland New Materials Oy, which is preparing to launch the Kotka cathode
active material plant, announced in March that the plant construction work will start in
April 2025.

The company has selected China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) as the main
contractor of the plant.

The value of the investment is approximately EUR 800 million, and at the most active
stage of construction, approximately 800 people are expected to work on the site.
“We are excited to start construction work in Kotka with our main contractor, CHEC, and
their local partners. Our plant project is significant in size, and the construction will
involve as much cooperation as possible with local subcontractors,” says Vesa
Koivisto, Chief Commercial Officer of Easpring Finland.
The Kotka-Hamina region development company Cursor Oy maintains a contractor
register online, where companies interested in major industrial projects in the region can
sign up and get involved with projects. Contractors interested in the Easpring plant
construction can register through the Cursor website.
Cathode active material (CAM) produced in the plant is an important part of lithium-ion
batteries, which are used in electric vehicles, energy storage, and other applications.
The future Kotka CAM production is especially needed by European battery cell
factories that produce battery solutions for electric vehicles.
When operational, the plant is expected to employ directly approximately 270 people at
the first-stage capacity.
