Construction work at our cathode active material (CAM) factory in Kotka has progressed at a good pace and according to plan towards the start of commercial production during 2027.
The installation of production equipment is the next significant milestone. Starting from the latter half of December 2025, production equipment necessary for manufacturing cathode active material, such as furnace systems and other key process equipment, will begin arriving at our factory.
The parts will arrive gradually in containers via the Port of Hamina-Kotka. At first, approximately 60 containers will arrive. In total, over a thousand containers will pass through the port. The installation of production equipment will begin after the turn of the year, alongside the factory’s construction work, as the equipment arrives.
Number of workers at the site is increasing
Already in autumn 2025, hundreds of construction workers and nearly 200 subcontractor companies from all over Finland have been working on our site. So far, 36 Kymenlaakso-based companies have been involved, and we expect this number to grow in the future.
With the acceleration of equipment installations and other construction activities, the number of employees participating in the construction will increase manifold.
“We are approaching the busiest phase of the Kotka plant’s construction work, and we estimate that at its peak in early 2026, about 800 construction workers and equipment installers will be working at our site,” says Vesa Koivisto, Chief Commercial Officer of Easpring Finland.
The majority of the CAM production equipment, and consequently the equipment installers, will come from China, as installing the equipment requires specialized expertise. As in other industrial sectors, it is typical in the construction of CAM plants for equipment suppliers to also be responsible for the installation of the most critical and demanding production equipment. Construction-related contracts, on the other hand, have been put out to a competitive tender in Finland.
After the equipment installations in early 2026, our plant is scheduled to produce the first product samples during summer 2026. We anticipate that commercial production will begin during 2027.
